Castle on the Hill 5k

The Lincoln National Alumni Association has awarded over $200,000 in scholarships to Lincoln scholars over the past 25 years!  Our goal is to raise between $150,000 and $500,000 to establish a Lincoln Scholarship Endowment Fund to increase the number and amount of scholarships awarded.  The Castle on the Hill 5k is just one of the ways we are striving towards that goal. You can join the effort by registering, donating or volunteering for the event!

Lincoln was founded as an elementary school to serve “colored” boys and girls in 1865.  Fast forward 150 years – Lincoln today has achieved “elite status” – serving multiracial, multiethnic, and multinational students. Lincoln is among the top five percent of the “Best High Schools in America” as ranked by U.S. News & World Report in 2013.  In October of 2014, Lincoln was one of 337 public and private schools nationwide to receive the Blue Ribbon award for excellence from the federal Department of Education.  The “crown jewel” of the Kansas City Public School District is Lincoln College Preparatory Academy.

Lincoln’s reputation for academic excellence and service to the community is not of recent “origin.” Obscured by a period of history marked by segregation, Lincoln’s prominence was not recognized until the 1950s when it was allowed to compete with the “broader education community.”  History will record the Legacy of Lincoln as being very strong during and after the era of segregation – and more notably its promising future.

The Lincoln National Alumni Association exists to honor the Legacy of Lincoln through recognizing it's alumni and providing a connection to the current Lincoln students, most prominently through the provision of scholarships to college bound seniors .  Through the alumni, we shine a spotlight on Lincoln’s contributions to the city, the state, and the nation.  Our goal is to provide a platform to build and tell the Lincoln Story about a “grateful” African American community and its many contributions to the growth and development of Kansas City.
